Cafe Gratitude to open location in Berkeley

SFgate.com reports that Cafe Gratitude, one of the Bay Area's top raw food spots, is opening up another location in Berkeley.

In Berkeley, the raw-vegan Cafe Gratitude will open next month at 1730 Shattuck Ave. (near Virginia) in the former Fontina space. The original San Francisco location (2400 Harrison, at 20th Street) has been packed since its inception. In November, a second cafe opened at 1336 Ninth Ave. (near Irving).

If you can get past the crunchy granola-style decor and proclamations -- servers ask customers what they are grateful for -- you'll find healthful organic raw food, like uncooked "pizza,'' salads and Mediterranean-inspired dips and spreads.

Just try not to snicker and snort your nut milk when you have to say, "I'd like the 'I am magical' " -- mushrooms stuffed with sprouted sunflower seed-walnut pate with Brazil nut cheese.
