This new JibJab sketch, What We Call The News, reminds me why I stopped watching the news many years ago.
Raw food is physical detoxing. Turning off the TV is mental detoxing. Except for this of course.

"100 million trees are ground up each year to make junk mail.
What can you do to help stop this?
Take 30 seconds of your time and go to www.OptOutPrescreen.com
Out Out Prescreen is the official consumer credit reporting industry website to accept and process requests from consumers to opt-out of official credit or insurance offers.
More tips on killing junk mail from the No Impact Man
1. All the junk mail, including that with plastic windows in the envelopes, goes in the recycling bin. For a guide to recycling in your community, go here.
2. I got my name off the credit card and insurance offer lists by going to the credit bureaus’ centralized service for opting out.
3. I spent a dollar—swear to God, that’s the price—to sign onto the Direct Marketing Association’s Mail Preference Service, which reportedly will reduce my junk mail by 75%.
4. I began calling the 800 number on the catalogs and asking them to take me off their lists

Beautiful interview with Michael Pollan, author of The Omnivore's Dilemma. Via kottke.org
If there's one thing that you hope the readers of The Omnivore's Dilemma will take away with them, what would that be?
MP: Eat with consciousness. When you eat with consciousness, and you know what you're eating, and you eat it in full appreciation of what it is, it's enormously satisfying. You also confront certain ethical dilemmas. I think it's important that we do that. One of the most irresponsible things we can do is eat in ignorance, without any awareness of what our eating is doing to the world or to other species.

Hundreds of studies a year are released touting the amazing benefits of eating more fruits and veggies. Yet the reality is that the average American's consumption of fruits and vegetables hasn't changed in the last 10 years. In fact, fewer than 1/3 of the population are even eating the minimum FDA recommendations.
Yes, people know fruits and veggies are good for them. But they don't know that they are life changing. Like reverse cancer, say good bye to diabetes, fix Medicare, no more prescription drugs, my-kid-looks-forward-to-school-lunch life changing. You feel me?
The current "gate-keepers" aren't going to do much about it. Not only do they see it as "risky", but to be honest, they aren't glowing with health. How much can you really care/know about true health if you aren't a shinning example?
So who's left? Well, it's us. Me and you and this growing community of people that have experienced first hand the importance of true food. It's us reading, learning, experiencing and sharing. It's us inviting others over for dinner. It's us blogging, myspace'n and networking. It's setting the demand and creating the infrastructure for change to happen.
The current plan that the nation is on happened default. People don't chose, on purpose, to live unhealthy lives. Rather living this way has become the nation's de facto plan. But it doesn't have to stay that way.
Someone out there - maybe your spouse, a co-woker, coach, best friend, teacher, student, kid, grandparent, or cousin is waiting for you to share something with them. Something specific and simple that makes them feel good. Possibly a tip, recipie or experience.
One day someone did the same for you, (and me). And look at you now - spending time reading about raw foods and whatnot. ; )
Your country awaits.

Like a master detective, our minds scour the field looking for evidence. Why? To build a case of course!
To build a case for how this week will go. To build a case for what's working and what isn't. To build a case for how to be around others.
But, there is problem with this detective's evidence - it's just plain faulty. Rather than being based on actual facts, most of the evidence is based on witness interpretation and the detective's own subjectivity. So, naturally, the case that this evidence is based upon is a sham from the start.
Here's where things get really messed up...
The same detective that collected the faulty evidence is actually the judge and the jury. You know, it's like one of those horror films about a really bizarre small town where everything is out of whack.
Except this horror film is real and it's called My Life. Guess who has the leading role?
The horror in our lives starts when we begin to believe the subjective evidence that our mind has built up. From that point it is only a matter of time before we build a case for how we should react. This includes a list of things we can and cannot do. Reasons and justifications for why things are the way that they are. And why we are powerless to bring change to the situation.
To literally stop the madness, it's an absolute must to go beyond evidence. When you've made a choice to transcend evidence you are only left with one thing. The present moment baby!
The most beautiful thing about the present moment is that it only cares about Now. Fuck what happened yesterday and last week - Now is all you have. And when Now is all you have, building momentum is fun and exciting. Why? Because you don't get in the way of yourself with your damn list of shaky evidence. The present moment momentum takes over and a strange thing happens. You stop worrying about the problem being solved and you start enjoying the process. Congratulations, life is actually fun again.
Today is a new day. Today is your day to go beyond evidence. But it will only happen if you make time to for it to happen. If you don't schedule it now, your ego will resist.
All you need is a few minutes - 10 will do. Grab a pen and paper, sit in a quite area where you won't be disturbed, and just start writing. It is as simple as writing short list of problems and the evidence that is associated to each one.
You may not immediately know what to do about a "problem". That's okay. Darkness is automatically removed by the presence of light. Shine light on your evidence daily and watch the magic happen.
A little Inspiration (if you need it)

Video: Click here to check out the clip of Alissa on the Tyra Show
A few weeks ago we reported that Alissa Cohen would be on the Tyra Banks show. The title of the show was "Diet Wars" and Alissa was up against Jillian Michaels and Dr. Ian Smith in an all out transformation challenge. All three diet experts were given two lovely women to work with over a period of 3 months. The goal? To see which pair of women could lose the most amount of weight with the help of their coach.
Well, this weekend I finally got around to seeing the results (via Russel Jame's Blog). The first clip is specifically team Alissa's results. The clip is actually very inspirational and just a tad bit awkward, all at the same time. Watch and you'll see.
Looks like Alissa got a bit shafted. It turns out that you actually have to do what your coach says to get results! Who would have thought! Actually, I feel bad for Sara, (the girl who didn't try the diet). Not only did she look a little bit salty, but she actually has no clue what she is missing.
So how did Alissa do out overall? Here's a clip of the finale:
Even though Alissa didn't win, there is no denying that Jhosie had the biggest transformation out of all the ladies. Not only did her skin look amazing, but Jhosie actually lost more weight than any of the women. You go girl!
And it seems raw food had a lasting impression on Tyra and her viewers. Just a couple of weeks ago Carol Alt was on the show with talking about her raw food transformation. She brought a few cases of Sarma's famous ice cream and I heard the audience went nuts!
Is the raw food movement cook'n or what!?!

On Monday we'll be launching the first version of Give it To Me Raw.
Here is a little preview of what the site will look like:

As you can see, give it to me raw is a custom map of Raw and Raw Friendly food spots. What makes the site unique is that it is based on Google Maps overlay. If you've used Google Maps you know how much better it is than MapQuest and Yahoo Maps.
The idea originally came when the WLIR squad was in Georgia last year looking for places to get some good raw food. Because it was so hard to find anything, we thought, "Hey, some should really do something about this."
Well, we decided that someone would be us.
We'll be launching with a New York City map, but soon we'll be adding L.A., San Fran, Chicago, and other major raw food hubs. We'll also be integrating all sorts of cool features along the way that will certainly make you smile!
