Sarma's Cilantro Shake

Sarmascilantroshake I've had only liquids for a whopping three days so far. I saw this piece about Angela Stokes who did this for 92 days. That's a loooong time! Doing what I do, it's not easy to not actually eat anything, be we'll see. Last time I tried this my energy spiked and it felt pretty good, so I'll report back soon. For now, below is a recipie for a shake I drink almost every day (even when not doing this whole liquid-only thing). I LOVE cilantro, and below you'll also find some reasons why that's a good thing (now I sound like Martha).

I add some thawed E3-Live to mine (you can dump a few tablespoons in and barely taste it, and trust me, you don't want to taste E3-Live unless you're one of those rare folk that like the taste of wheatgrass, because that's what it tastes like, funkiness multiplied!), as well as some tocotrienols (tasty), and top it off with a sprinkle of bee pollen. Yum.  If I was a guy I might throw in some hemp protein for good measure.

Now onto the fun..

Sarma's Cilantro Shake Ingredients

  • Pink Grapefruit
  • Cucumber
  • Cilantro
  • Lime
  • Pineapple
  • Agave Nectar or stevia
  • Vanilla Extract
  • BIG pinch of Cinnamon
  • Pinch of salt

Directions
In a blender, (Vitamix if you have one) throw a pink peeled grapefruit, peeled cucumber, lots and lots and lots of cilantro - like half a bunch, a lime, some pineapple, agave nectar or stevia, vanilla extract,  BIG pinch of cinnamon, and pinch of salt.

More Love for Cilantro
Free radicals are everywhere - in the water we drink, food we eat, and in the air we breathe. The main defense to free radicals (coming from pollution, x-rays, radiation, chemicals, heavy metals) are antioxidants.  Cilantro leaves are rich in calcium, iron, carotenes, and vitamin C, which it happens are great antioxidants.  A Japanese investigator, Yoshiaki Omura, has made the revolutionary discovery that cilantro can mobilize mercury and other toxic metals from the central nervous system if large enough amounts are consumed daily. Reuters reports that cilantro contains a chemical which has been found to kill the Salmonella bacteria that cause foodborne illness.

The heavy metal detox capabilities of cilantro should also make it of great use in the treatment of depression, Alzheimer's disease, lack of concentration and other related disorders.  In other words, this herb can apparently help to keep you happy, focused, and sane!  Just eat it, don't smoke it.

Thanks Sarma. I just made your awesome smoothie today.
Muy Muy delicioso! My 9 year old liked it a lot. He said it made him strong and his headache went away.

P.S. my first trip ever to New York will be to visit your restaurant!

Unusual but perhaps tasty? I'll have to try it ;) Plus grapefruit and cucumber make me feel so healthy with all those enzymes and silicon :D

Is hemp protein not good for women? This is news to me.

This smoothie is incredible! It totally masks the flavor of Nature's First Food--which is hard to do. I used a little bit of coconut water to facilitate blending.

This is, by far, the BEST green drink I have ever had. Just more proof that Sarma is the raw Chef Godess of the world. I am a very picky eater. Every recipe I have made so far from Sarma has been AWESOME.

Traveling Mel

New to the site...
How much of each of these things do you put in ?

Lara

Sounds great! I'm gathering tasty green smoothie recipes and this one is just what I'm looking for. I'd add some spirulina to it also as cilantro will mobilize heavy metals, but spirulina will bind to them and help transport them out of your body.

BADshah

Thnx Sarma, I'm all abt da green. But I'm freakin anal when it comes to exact quantities cause Im scared it won't turn out right if I get libral wid it. Can u help me out?

I just made this drink for my family and they enjoyed it! The ages were between 8 years and 60 years old...no age limit on this drink. Thank you.

This sounds good, but how much of each are we to use--a whole pineapple, a tspn of vanilla?

Susan

Just curious, (since a vita-mix could probably chew up nails) you mentioned peeling the grapefruit, but not the lime. Do you include the lime peel? That sounds so bitter.

Diaper Rash Dad

Great recipe, wonderful website, stuck at home on paternal leave enjoying the tips :)

Julie

How much of each ingredient do put into the blender.

This sounded so good, but it turned out so bitter and too chunky, I was disappointed. I'll try it again, but use lime juice instead of the whole lime and more pineapple. It has to work, these are my favorite flavors :)

How much of each do I put into this mix? I have no clue so I can't make it yet. Awaiting your email. :)

Shabri

This is a interesting combination and I have to try it out.

Hey, guys...I just tried this, and it is wonderful! I did peel the lime, and added about a cup of pineapple to sweeten it. I have no stevia or agave. :-)

I just tried this with some banana (because it was really ripe), and it's really good. I'd freeze some of the pineapple or grapefruit beforehand, so it doesn't get too warm. Mine wasn't that warm, but I got some chunks. I also used lemon juice instead.
