Our good buddy, Chris Whitcoe, has a fun raw friendly podcast out. Episode 3 topics include: Interview with Sergei Boutenko, Thought of the Week via David Rain, Down on the Mat - Sun Salutation Explained and more. Episode 2 featured a nice segment on conscious hip hop.

The Almond Milk Book

Kristin Whitcoe wants to get you excited about raw almonds. She recently completed a 57 page recipe book about the luscious nuts that is "mom, kid, and family-friendly". The book also features her family's personal experience transitioning to healthier "milk" choices and tons of raw resources.

The Future of Food

As the conscious food movement has grown, some big challenges have accompanied its success. Challenges such as meeting growth demands, organic vs local and the impact of food miles.

The solutions to these challenges aren't black and white. In fact, they require an on-going dialogue from all communities, because it will take the community (all of us) to solve the challenges. 

On February 27th, 2007 two leaders decided they wanted to facilitate and discuss some of these challenges in the open. Michael Pollan, author of The Omnivore's Dilemma, and John Mackey, CEO of Whole Foods, held their public conversation, titled Past, Present, and Future of Food, in Berkley, CA with an open audience.

Give It To Me Raw is a phat listing of raw and raw friendly spots. We debuted with New York City, and have now added our second location, LA. And we're not stopping there! Upcoming locations include San Francisco / Bay Area, Chicago, San Diego, London, Philadelphia, and like every other place in the world.

The Los Angeles area has long been the major hot spot for the raw / conscious food movement. Our hopes is that more people will have access to the area's amazing raw spots with this website.

Mandatory Almond Pasteurization

Our food freedom is under siege. Like no-more-raw-almonds siege!

Starting in the fall of 2007 all raw almonds in North America will undergo mandatory pasteurization.

In the past 5 years, the almond industry experienced two food safety incidents in which raw almonds were recalled due to the presence of Salmonella.  While contamination in almonds is not common, the industry determined that aggressive measures were necessary to prevent any other occurrences.

They weren't lying about that whole aggressive measures thing! But what's really going on?

The primary reasons for passing this law are two isolated outbreaks of salmonella, in conjunction with conventional almond farms a few years ago. To the best of our knowledge no salmonella outbreaks have EVER been associated with organic almonds.

Within the past 10 years tomatoes, spinach, green onions, peanuts, grapes, melons, lettuce, and sprouts have all been linked to salmonella outbreaks. Does that mean we should eliminate all fresh produce? Absolutely not!!!

Almonds, the heartbeat of all nuts, literally, have been associated with reduced risk of heart disease, a rich source of calcium, magnesium, vitamin E, protein, fiber and antioxidants to name a few . These amazing and life enhancing health benefits, will be devastatingly reduced if not completely eliminated in the pasteurization process.
