Why aren't you on twitter?
Twitter is a social application that gets people to answer one simple question: What are you doing?
I joined Twitter earlier this year (here's my page) and I've totally enjoyed the experience. Not only do I get a chance to share my latest happenings (things that I wouldn't share on this blog), but I also get an opportunity to follow the lives of people who I've always wanted to know more about - Penni, Jung and Chadd to name a few.
When my friends update their Twitter, via the web or by text message, I get a ping on my cell phone and or computer. I literally get to "follow" the lives of very interesting people. Some are are bloggers, others are readers of this blog, and some are just random friends.
But, by far, most of my friends on Twitter are raw foodies, which is fantastic. And since I started 'tweeting', back in March, I've been noticing that more of my raw friends have been using Twitter as a mobile "buddy system". People are actually using Twitter to keep each other motivated, informed and supported - the way that local friends would do. Everyday I see friends talking about how great they feel, asking for recipe advice, venting on emotions and even address cravings/binges. Here are some recent examples:
Penni lets the world know about about her fantastic Chia Shake and Dea plans to give it a try...
Rubyvroom: Busy day ahead. Sending my good people a holla before it starts getting jiggy around here. Green Chia Shake - get me through this craziness!
DeaInTheRaw: Tried chia seeds for the first time in my late morning raw muesli, Rubyvroom will look @ yr recipe for chia seeds. :)
Julie's been having weird cravings recently so she vents out loud to her friends...
JulieK: And here's more weirdness: I've been craving Starbucks coffee & for 2nd day in a row. I get a cup & can only drink 1/2 before wanting to hurl
Tanja sends some public love to Heidi and Heidi blushes...
TanjaAndrews: Do we love @heidiohlander and Justin of Raw Food Right Now? Oh yes we do! http://freshtopia.net/vlog/
HeidiOhlander: When I saw that Freshtopia posted about Justin & I & RawFoodRightNow, I blushed. Now I am feelin' the love from Oscar & Tanja. Good times...
I could go on and on, but I think you get the idea. Whether it's for recipe advice, general support or sharing the love, Twitter has become a great place for raw foodies to enjoy each other's company.
To take the community one step further, I'm also going to try a little experiment. Since people are already using Twitter as an informal buddy system, I'm going to formalize it. Call it the Raw Buddy System actually, that sounds dumb, so call it what ever you want. But to participate, here's what you gotta do:
- Sign up for Twitter (if you're not already on it)
- Add me as a friend
- Let me know that you'd like to be partnered up with someone (firstname.lastname@example.org)
I'll set you up with a buddy and every 2 to 3 weeks we'll rotate buddies so people have an opportunity to meet different folk.
When you meet your buddy be sure to 1) introduce yourself and 2) share a little bit about why/where you are looking for support/encouragement. From there, let me magic happen!
I'm excited to see how this pans out.
Also, to make it easy for you to make friends, I've included a full list of my Twitter buddies. View it by clicking on the link below.
