Contemplating Love

Images

For me, Mother Teresa is one of the most inspiring people when it come to loving. Especially unconditional love. Rumi is another “go to” for beautiful poetry on love. So today there will quotes everywhere!

With Valentines Day tomorrow, everyone, everywhere I go is talking about what they will buy their loved one for this annual event. I tend to avoid stores with shelves full of cheap candy, stuffed animals and expensive cards. Ugh... A Valentines Day cynic? Perhaps....

Practice Love Every Day

Each and every day ought to be an outpouring of love, appreciation and gratitude, not just for your sweetheart or children, but for everyone you come in contact with. I love leaving notes in special places for my sweeties, sending a short text letting them know that something they did was appreciated. I like to have love quotes on the insides of cabinets and doors. There’s no shortage of gushing forth of love for the people in my life.

There are also the “strangers” you encounter in your daily life. Leave them with a smile, a kind word, or a hot cup of coffee and a sandwich. You have no idea how your actions can impact another. One spark of love triggers another. Just as a drop in a lake ripples out, so does your love.

“Spread love everywhere you go. Let no one ever come to you without leaving happier.”

Mother Teresa

“In your light I learn how to love. In your beauty, how to make poems. You dance inside my chest where no-one sees you, but sometimes I do, and that sight becomes this art.”

Rumi

“Everytime you smile at someone, it is an action of love, a gift to that person, a beautiful thing.”

Mother Teresa

That being said, Valentine’s Day does give us a moment to pause and reflect on the people we love and care for and perhaps do a little something extra to show that love. Or to reignite a commitment to showing your love to that special someone in your life.

Practice Random Acts of Unconditional Love

Don’t ever forget that YOU have the ability to transform each and every person you come in contact with. Be it through a helping hand, a smile or a hug. Helping others raises the happiness in oursleves as well as the person being helped.

“Be grateful for whoever comes, because each has been sent as a guide from beyond.”

Rumi

“I'm a little pencil in the hand of a writing God, who is sending a love letter to the world.” Mother Teresa

“When you do things from your soul, you feel a river moving in you, a joy.”

Rumi

“I have found the paradox, that if you love until it hurts, there can be no more hurt, only more love.”

Mother Teresa

If you are looking for a special someone, rather than reflecting on what you want to “find” in a person, consider “becoming” the person you would like to find. When you start to transform your own life you radiant that energy out and magnetize to yourself similar energy. Emptying our hearts of all the stories we carry of our past hurts, our stories of self judgment, judgement and resentment of others leaves a huge open and empty space we have to fill up with love. Start letting go of the things that do not serve a higher purpose in your life. Make space for what DOES serve a higher purpose and that brings you joy, love and fulfillment. When the space is open, what you really need and desire will find a way to fill the space.

“Your task is not to seek for love, but merely to seek and find all the barriers within yourself that you have built against it.”

Rumi

"May God break my heart so completely that the whole world falls in.”

“May today there be peace within. May you trust that you are exactly where you are meant to be. May you not forget the infinite possibilities that are born of faith in yourself and others. May you use the gifts that you have received, and pass on the love that has been given to you. May you be content with yourself just the way you are. Let this knowledge settle into your bones, and allow your soul the freedom to sing, dance, praise and love. It is there for each and every one of us." Mother Teresa

So, whether or not you subscribe to the conventional card and candy Valentines Day or not. Take a moment to reflect on ways you can be more present and authentic and show up as LOVE being manifested with those loved ones and every person that enters your life. Just BE LOVE <3
