Detox the Body. Detox the Mind.

I am having such a great time here in Oregon. I love the history, the culture, the mossy trees, all the gardens everywhere and the fact that everything is lush and green! Most of all I am enjoying my son! He is having such a good time showing me around the town!

So, along with many of you, I am also on the http://www.cleanseamerica.com Cleanse. However, being in a place where I have no access to my Vitamix or Juicer has been challenging! It’s also been challenging to be in a town where there are SO many vegan cafe’s and it’s making it challenging to stay on a 100% raw food cleanse. So I decided to start the FULL cleanse when I get home on Thursday and have all my equipment and am not so tempted!

But I have committed to doing the best I CAN do, so what I’m doing is very simple raw food. We went to the market and I got lots of fruit, greens, veggies, spirulina, hemp seeds and I’m eating a huge bowl of fruit for breakfast, a big salad for lunch, lots of water and about 50% raw for dinner. It’s somewhat of a “transition” into the cleanse which will officially begin for me Thursday morning. I do have to say that I’m really enjoying this uncomplicated way of eating.

I realized that if I were to FORCE myself into a place that was so challenging and unenjoyable that not only would my cleanse not turn out well, my body/mind would start resenting what I was doing and I would not be 100% PRESENT to the precious time I had with my son. (He had a list of all the vegan restaurants he wanted to take me to here in Eugene which seems to be the capitol of vegan cafes!)

I encourage you while you go through your cleanse to get present to your what’s going on in your life. Get a journal if you don’t already have one and take some time to explore   what’s coming up for you on the cleanse. Even if you are not cleansing, journaling and getting present with life is an incredible practice!

Make a list of all the people and things in your life you are grateful for in your life and look at how you relate and interact with them. Are you fully present to the blessings they are for you? Could you express that appreciation more fully?

Take a look at how you express yourself. This is an awesome thing to do during a cleanse! While your body releases toxins, you can release mental toxins and toxic thoughts, words and ways of being at the same time! Just purge! On all levels! Write it down and see what’s coming up for you.

Do you complain about the same things in life all the time? Do you carry an “I’m a victim of life” story? Take control! Stop choosing those words. They leave you disempowered! Chose a powerful way of being! If this is something you resist, ask yourself this question: What is it that I get from playing the victim in my life? What is it that I get from playing small?

There’s ALWAYS a pay off. Perhaps it’s that if you never take a chance you never have to fail, look silly or have people scrutinize you. Or if you give up the victim mentality people will stop doing things for you and you will have to take 100% responsibility for your life. Perhaps you’ve gotten a bit complacent and life a life of leisure but have decided it’s easier for you to blame circumstances for you not being able to get that awesome job or start that awesome project...on and on and on.....

I shared recently on the blog about an incredible movie I had just seen called Finding Joe. If you are stuck in some “Not so powerful” ways of being in your life, I HIGHLY recommend this movie! I also recommend it for everyone! I’ve watched it now about 12 times in the past month and a half!

A few months back, Dr Ariel Policano http://www.womengoraw.com asked me if I would write a book and create the recipes for an ebook she had an idea for. I had such a blast creating some delicious recipes for “The Avocado Smoothie Book”!

Since we are talking about cleansing I thought I’d share a few recipes from the book and give you a link if you would like more info!

The book has over 30 recipes from smoothies to raw breakfasts as well as a 21 day menu plan, tips and advice on fitness and skin care! For more info on the book: http://www.womengoraw.com/2011/10/19/avocado-smoothie-with-21-day-power-plan/

Jane, from http://www.Blenditandmendit.com did an amazing video review of the 21 day program. Jane shares her candid thoughts on the recipes and a few tweaks she would make. As always, please use your creativity and tweak the recipes to your taste! Eating should be an enjoyable experiance!

Pineapple Orange Fennel Smoothie

This smoothie is excellent if you feel a cold coming on, if you overate the day before and you want to kick-start your digestion, or if you just want a deliciously refreshing drink.

Ingredients:

  • 2 cups water
  • 1 cup fennel, chopped
  • ¼ orange, chopped
  • ½ cup pineapple, chopped
  • ½ banana (ripe)
  • ¼ avocado

Directions:

Blend for about 30-45 seconds. So refreshing!

Viva Cilantro!

Wonderfully refreshing and savory, this smoothie celebrates cilantro! Cilantro is excellent for cleansing heavy metals from the body. However, no one needs to have such high cleansing aspirations in order to enjoy this deliciousness.

Ingredients:

  • 2 cups water
  • ½ cucumber, chopped
  • 1 stalk celery, chopped
  • ½ cup cilantro, chopped
  • ½ lime, peeled
  • ¼ avocado
  • 1 banana

Directions:

Blend about 20-30 seconds.

Metabolism Booster

This is a favorite of mine! It’s a perfect meal that leaves you nourished, full and satisfied for hours. This could also be a soup, just add a half cup LESS water and blend in the Vitamix until warm.

Ingredients:

  • 2 cups water
  • ½ cup carrot, chopped
  • ½ cup broccoli, chopped
  • 1 clove garlic, chopped
  • ¼ cup parsley, chopped
  • 2 Tbsp cilantro, chopped
  • ½ cup apple, chopped
  • ½ tsp dulse or spirulina
  • ¼  avocado
  • Dash cayenne
  •

Directions:

Blend for 45 seconds.
